Operating Multiple Zones That Have Similar Settings
Using "Common Settings" allows you to apply the same settings to multiple zones. Refer to "Common Settings" for how to configure the settings.
Configuring the Same Settings for Multiple Zones
When using your server as the primary name server and a Managed DNS Server as a secondary name server to operate multiple zones, create a single set of common settings and apply the same common settings to all of the contracted zones instead of configuring settings separately for each zone.
- Create a TSIG key, referring to "TSIG Key Management."
- Create common settings, referring to "Common Settings."
- Configure the primary name server and TSIG key settings in common settings, referring to "Primary Name Server Settings."
- Configure the common settings to multiple zones, referring to "Change Common Settings."
Even when you have signed up for additional zones, you can complete the configuration simply by applying the existing common settings. If you configure the settings of "Default" in advance, specified common settings are applied automatically to the additionally contracted zones.
Rewriting Common Settings
When you rewrite "Common Settings," the changed settings are applied to all of the applicable zones. This feature not only saves work in making changes, but also prevents omitting settings with respect to some zones.
Changing the Settings of Some Zones Only
To pre-test the operation of a zone because you are planning to change the settings of all zones, use the following procedure to change the settings of some zones only.
- Create "Copy" in "Common Settingss."
- Change the copied settings in "Common Settings."
- Configure the zone common settings changed in "Change Common Settings" with respect to the zone to be tested.
- Confirm that the test has not revealed any problems.
- Refer to "Change Common Settings" to configure the settings with respect to the remaining zones.
